I'd suggest an old RCA type ribbon like a 77dx or a RCA44. There's the AEA's that are wonderful. Their 44 is to die for as far as I'm concerned.

The U47 or 49 would also be good, as would a Telefunken Elam 251, but I'd still go for the ribbon, classic sound. Smokey jazz vibe.

The Telefunken pres are nice - V-72. I'm a Millennia man and I personally think they compliment the classic ribbon mics well. Something like the UA 2-610 is vintage but might be too colored. The Millennia Origin would be really nice. GML of course to die for. A Neve clone of a 1272 or 1073 might work well too.
