Drum Replacement Sounds...V Drums?

I used an older Roland V-Drums module this week for some drum replacement earlier this week, and I was amazed at the sounds I could get (I'm still not great at getting all I need from the mics...). I was wondering what other folks might recommend for such work?

I'm on a PTle system using an iBook. Man, it's becoming slooooooooooooowww....

Thanks.

Gigasampler has quite the library also....

What are you using to replace the sounds? Sound replacer?

Don't have sound replacer, so I was using individual tracks as triggers into the V Drums modules. Works pretty well. Can't afford a Giga studio setup, so that's not really an option.

The TD-10 sounds like total cheese to me. Its fun to bust out if you want those sweet 80s Genesis tom sounds, but otherwise kinda useless.

Synth drums with 16 bit reverb!!!

I think a quality sample set is mucho mucho more realistic.

Like the Bob Clearmountin CDs?

I would much prefer something like that, but I'm currently without a sampler. Would consider buying SoundReplacer, but I think it's for TDM systems only right?

As a matter of fact, I'm using the TD-10 exclusively in my Genesis tribute record called "Invisible Touch".

NOT.

I'm with cdog, the V-drum modules sound like pure ass. Cymbals all sound like you're listening through a pipe... I assume their compression algorithm is the culprit.

If you can manage to acquire both the Clearmountain Samples and SoundReplacer you'd be in pretty good shape.

You can get really, creative with this set up. You have to be. Otherwise, the results will be reminiscent of SOUND REPLACED DRUMS.

Take your time with it and pay attention to the timbre and dynamics of the original sound. You, certainly, don't want to use only one snare at ( ff ) throughout the duration of the entire song, for instance. Every hit would sound the same. Very one dimensional. Instead, you can add up to 3 samples ( at a time ) within SoundRelpacer, allowing you to adjust the threshold in accordance with the dynamics of each drum hit you wish to replace. Then try it again with a snare sample with more snare in it; same scenario. Blend to taste.

Not at all a fan of Roland samples, particularly their drum samples. Yuck.

Hell, I've tracked a drummer who used a set of V Drums. (Don't ask me why) I hated the sounds so baddly that I replaced THEM with SoundReplacer.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Looks like Clearmountain samples with Sound Replacer are the way to start. Thanks for the help.
