| SM7B or RE20? If you had to decide between one of them, which one would it be? I'm thinking of using it for vocals, bassdrum, front of kit, amp. Any alternatives? Thanks a lot! Claus

| Gear nut | We use the RE20 on our last single for kick drum and guitar amps. It sounded great on kick and it just shone on driven guitar tracks. Ran it through the pres on a Tweed Audio mixer (apparently used by Radiohead according to the producer?) and it delivered plenty of weight on the kick without sacrificing the definition. I would like both, but I only have the SM7B (got it for silly money). I love the sound of the SM7 on certain vocalists, just works, and also good for guitar amps, but I'd still lean towards the RE20 out of the two. |

| Lives for gear | RE20 is great- I use it on snare as well as the usual uses.

| The RE20 is more versatile IMO, the SM7B is better for vocals. I think everybody should eventually have the RE20, the SM7B and the 421...they are all excellent mics. |

| Personally I would go with the SM7B. I love the way that mic sounds on almost anything.

| Gear addict | RE20 on snare? how'd that sound? I've got to try that... could be awesome!! I'm a HUGE RE20 fan, the SM7 is great too, but I find the RE20 more versatile if you HAD to pick one... |

| Do the Heil mics just not compare or are people only posting on the 2 posted? The Heil mics are cheaper and seem to have quite a few fans around. |

| The impression I have is that the Heils sound more like the RE20 than the SM7 by a long way, but the Heils have less bottom and a clearer top. |

| I've got them all....including the ones mentioned and the Beyer M88, MD421, MD441, ATM25, Beta 52 and Beta 91....I'm sure I"m leaving out some of my bigger dynamics, but out of all of the, I'd say the RE20 is the one if I had to only keep one. Maybe the M88 would give it a run, but that's the only one close. The others do some things great...SM7 on vox, 441 on some vox and horns....but overall, the RE20 does it all. m

| So for someone starting out with no drum mics I've ordered an i5. Beta 52, Studio Projects C4's would a RE20 be better for me? (by the way I'm gettiong the Red Mic deal so I guess I'm not looking forduel duty mics) I do electronic music mostly. |

| I love 'em both (SM7B and RE20 that is). But picked the EV RE27. It has a neodymium magnet for quicker response and better highs. It sounds better than LDCs on some vocals, and is THE go-to mic for horns, kick and bass cabs. |
