What we owe to our craft and passion!

To our little family here:

I'm sitting here jacked up on excedrin.

I really believe that we owe it to our love for analog recording gear and recording in general, that we should all take the time to pass on our knowledge to those newbies that come along. I'm talking the ones with an interest that seem lost in a world of Pro Tools and plugins.

I really believe that the whole intern thing needs to make a comeback; we need to keep the torch burning.

I think it is so sad when you read an article where an artist does not know what an audio engineer does or is, or what a recording console is needed for.

If we as enthusiasts don't keep this going, eventually it will be gone and everybody will think garage band and a usb m-audio mic is all you need.

I love it when people come over and see my 7' long Trident Series 70 sitting where a dining room used to be and that it was my wife's idea to put it there. Or the racks of vintage tube gear, thing with actual VU meters and knobs. Plus WOW electric guitars, drums and other REAL instruments.

Don't get me wrong, digital is a great tool. However what the ****! How have we let it come to people thinking they can produce a record from a ****ing laptop.

When you come into my studio, the computer monitor is off to the side. I got tired of looking at the music and one day said **** this "that piece of shit is a distraction to my ears..."

These forums, recordingconsoles.net, gearslutz, TapeOp, and others have helped keep my sanity. However, if a newbie in your local area shows interest take them under your wing; they don't even have to be a musician.

Ah... I love the sweet smell of tape, solder, and hot tubes in the morning.

Peace, Love, and Transformers!
