feedback, advice, suggestions to round out mic arsenal???

hi,

as you can see below, most of my mics are bang for the buck stuff, yet the kind that i can keep + use for years to come, in my humble opinion... i need to keep with that theme for the short term.

with the above as a parameter, i would really appreciate mic suggestions that would make for an effective + flexible mic collection.

FWIW, they'll be used for alt. country, r&r from the hardest to the softest, jazz - bebop+swing... brazilian, motown r+b, funk, reggae, electronica, middle eastern (acoustic instruments mostly), latin + african influenced stuff, and on classical instrumentation ( small string sections etc... ) - really, anything from the loudest motorhead/death metal to the quietest, most delicate + sublime passages...

among other things, for example, i believe i need some SDC's ( oktavas come to mind). so, are there other tried + true bang for $ SDCs?

in addition to SDCs, any other suggestions?

here's a list of my mics:

Beyerdynamic M260N(C) x 2 (1 straight+1 tapered shaft) ...may be modded to 77DX

Beyerdynamic X1N x 1

Beyerdynamic M61 x 1

Beyerdynamic Soundstar MK11 x 1

CAD e100 x 1

CAD M37 x 1

ElectroVoice 635A/B x 1

ElectroVoice RE 10 x 1

ElectroVoice RE 16 x 1

ElectroVoice RE 18 x 1

Oktava MKL-2500 tube mic modded by Michael Joly x 1

Mics I typically use for documentary film ( i include these here just because...)

Beyerdynamic M58 x 1

Sennheiser ME64 / K6 x 1

Sennheiser ME66 / K6 x 1

TRAM lavalier x 1

Lectrosonics lavalier x 1

thanks for the help,
quantz

Here's some good bang for the buck mics:

Audix D6 (kick)
Shure Beta52 (kick)
Audix i5 (snare/elec gtr cabs) x 2
Beyer M201 (snare)
Shure SM57's (everybody needs at least 2-3 guitar cabs, snare, whatever)
AKG C451 (x2) SDC (OH, Ac gtr, HH)
Neumann KM84 (x2) SDC(OH, Ac gtr, HH, string section OH)
Sennheiser 421 (x3 toms, guitars, horns, all around)
Sennheiser 441 X1 - perhaps the ultimate dynamic
Coles 4038 or Apex 205 modded by M.Joly (x2) Piano, gtr cabs, vox -retro-, etc.
EV RE20 (kick, horns)
Royer 121 (guitar cab ribbon!!)

That's just a start, but should keep you busy until someone else chimes in....

I made some suggestions in the low end theory forum on this post....

Here in a different forum:

Look hard at the Earthworks line. A pair of SR25s will do a lot.

An RE20 might be nice to add as it can be used on voice and kick drums and just about anything else in a pinch. Sounds good on bass instruments especially.

AT 4033 and 4047 will give you some different vocal mics.

....And I'm still gonna tell you to get a Heil PR30 - but you might look at the PR40 too....

Since you like Beyer's house sound, I suggest the Beyer SDCs if you can make the jump over Oktavas pricewise. (I think it's MC930 or something) Front end audio has a stereo kit for $1G.

Beyer M201 from full compass is another great (!) dynamic mic.

Cascade Fathead 2 ribbons, in a blumlein pair is bang for the buck.

Those and one incredible LDC...probably a tube mic for vocals...whatever suits your fancy and budget.
