| lavry blue....saturation? i'm looking at the lavry blue and mytek converters (ad/da). i saw the lavry offers analog and digital saturation features. can anyone comment on these? how do they sound? how do they work? is it worth the extra $ over the myteks? thanks for any feedback. |

| Lives for gear | The saturation isn't intended to emulate 'tape' or 'toob'. I believe it is intended primarily for a mastering or stereo situation where the engineer feels it is appropriate to use this. The analog saturation has a much more subtle feel than the digital brick wall saturation/limiter. Neither can be hit extremely hard before artifacts are introduced (and this goes for any device of this type), but when used with reason they sound excellent. I master quite a lot now, and I use the analog saturation almost every time. It sounds more open and natural than a fast 2 bus compressor when used lightly, and requires that I use less digital brickwall in the end (which is ALWAYS a good thing in my book).

| The digital saturation increases signals under -12dBFS by 6db's and is helpful if you don't want to push your analog signal too hard prior to going to the converters. Its a handy option to have although its usually not needed of you have a good digital comp/limiter following the converters. The analog saturation rounds off peak signals and and lets you slam the converters without excessive digital artifacts. I find you can push the Lavry's pretty hard without either saturation mode. | I leave the saturation permanantly on. Its a very subtle effect but IMHO a v good one.
