Next Piece of Gear?

OK, I thought I would change my wording and ask again.

In the house, I have a 001, Mackie 24-8, Mackie 824's, Waves plug-ins (some essentials), C-1 Mic, 57's, Senn D604, and other assorted small things that can be borrowed.

I'm looking to do demos for small guys and get some experience. I have NO pre's, save the box and the mackie.

I have the opportunity to get a piece of gear, my estimation is in the range of 1000-1500USD. I have been thinking of getting a combo Pre/AD converter.

What would you suggest as a next piece...either Pre/AD converter or something else?

Thanks for any advice here.

My vote would be to sink more money into mics.

If I were you:
1. Sell the Mackie 24-8 and the Mackie 824's.
2. Buy a pr. of ADAM P22's from Fletcher $2.5Kish?
3. Buy a pr. of BA "API" 312s used- $1K
4. Buy a AT 4050 used - $400
5. Buy a nice converter. Lucid ADAT thingy used - $1K

I know this is more than your budget but, I don't think you should never just look at the small/immediate picture. Have a long term plan and gear your way to it. Also, buy stuff that holds its value if possible.

If there is one thing that can mook up the 001 (and there isn't many) it is the 24-8. Just so you know an 001 is what I run at the core as well so, no insults meant. I run mine with an AD-8000 but, I am selling it to go the Lucid route. I checked one out recently and I prefered it.

How are you using the 24-8?
For what specifically?

Lastly, if you can find and buy broken top-end gear. I am always amazed that....first people sell it that way and second how often mfgrs fix it for free/cheap. Manley, Langevin, Summit, BA are all great about repairs. Even those that are not usually have repair caps like TC and Lexicon. $325 flat bench rate. If you can find this stuff broken you will amass a nice little collection cheap. Sometimes you can even buy something and flip it to get what you want. For instance, I got a top end reverb recently and had it repaired...ebayed it....I made enough to get into a Langevin DVC.
Free. How cool is that?

Get clever. Think about it.
Never say "I can't afford it." <-- dummy talk!
Say " How can I afford it?"
Do this with all facets of your life and it will be richer.

I don't even know what this thread is about anymore.....
