soundcraft 6000

Well I am still hunting for a decent board.
I found a soundcraft 6000 that is about 10 yrs old being sold locally.

Can anyone give me any feedback on these?

What should I look for as far as wear and tear items to be careful about?

Jim Williams if you have any info I would appreciate it. you seem to be pretty well in the know.

Thanks
Eric

Hey Edyer

it's been many a year since I've sat at one but I used to use one all the time and really got some good sounding mixes off it.

It terms of reliabilty, it never went wrong and was abused by many a tape op.

Sonically, it's hard for me to be accurate about the characteristics because I probably view the 6000 with rose tinted glasses. Apart from a few shit desks (seck, allan and heath, studio master) is was the first serious desk I did paid work on. There was also an old Soundtracs desk at this place and I just didn't like the sound of it so I mainly worked on the 6000.

As I recall, it was quiet in comparison to the Soundtracs. The EQ worked well on drums, the low mids and bottom end always sounded punchy but I recall the hi mids being fizzy... how-ever, back then I was DumbAss so it could have just been me.

But like I said, the mixes still sound ok and any deficiencies can prolly be attributed to me and my inexperience at the time. Personally, if I were looking for a good value console, I'd say it would a good place to start, depending on the condition.
