If you're just doing acoustic and vocal, the LA610 is going to sound great and with a U95 you can't go wrong. However, if $$ money was not an issue I'd go with 6176 as the 1176 compressor is much more versatile which becomes very valuable when you are layering different tracks/instruments on top of each other. I also think that a nice tube mic like a U95 benefits from either a solid state pre and/or compressor in contrast since your getting a lot of tube flavor from the mic. Thing is, it may not be worth a grand to you considerining what your recording. Either way you'll get a nice big sound.

Not on topic of the 610 vs 6176, as I haven't tried the 6176, but be wary of the 610. It may work well for you - which it did for me with tracking stuff that didn't have a large dynamic range. Yet when recording dynamic vocalists it is very easy to clip the 610. and yes I'm using a DAW at -18 dBfs = + 4 dBu and may not be an issue if you're using an analogue tape machine.

THe reason the 6176 is a grand more is beacause you can use the pre or compressor seperately from each other or joined together. So it really is two boxes in one. With the La610, you can only use them "joined" at all times. You cannot bypass the tube stage. The 6176 is a solo 610 and an 1176 just thrown on the same strip. The 6176 goes for , I believe, $2200 . If you were to buy them seperately, you would pay $1700 for the 1176 and $799 for the solo 610. 6176= two boxes in one. One of their best modern products IMO.

Thanks for all the response guys, im defintily leaning towards the 6176 as it seems much more versatile, ide like to be able to use the 1176 part of it for guitar amp recording as well, maybe with an api pre
