Sure. Apparently Rupert only made 10 tube consoles, ever. But the consoles(with 10xx series modules) that we all know and love are tube-less. And as far as I know API never made a tube console.

It's all good man. Just razzin you. I used to think that equipment with tubes in it was better and warmer than solid state gear too, but I have learned that this is not the case. In fact, the best and most popular recording gear does not have tubes.

Now guitar amplifiers, that's another story.

People are probably laughing at you right now. How are you going to get a warm sound without running through tubes? Explain that one to me or do you want to sound like a computer?

By running through a Neve 1073. Well in my case a clone of one.

I shall not be discussing anything audio with you anymore. It is like arguing with an unarmed man.

Good luck.

It is a Vintech X73i. A Neve 1073 clone. No tubes and very big and warm sounding.

God help you brother.

I think it's a good question. Why not buy a Neve if you want a Neve?

Edison was dealing with unknowns. This stuff is all well documented. Its not judgement. Its fact. You have little to no idea what you are talking about.

May I suggest Google

Isn't it interesting what all people would want to do on the internet?

Play w(h)ores for others, man presenting themselves as women, old man as young boys, people offering themselves to become punchbags for others... I guess masochism has no limits...

That being said - I think this community is mature enough that can survive little provocateurs like this Blender/Hob whatever persona who is quite amuzing... I could imagine a comic book based upon him... A young, pretentious, self-indulged rockstar wannabe with huge holes of knowledge and any understanding of audio with some knowledge of what is hip & expensive and a very good sense of being ultimately insulting... I think he is just bored and likes to play this preposterous alter-ego...

I am deranged enough to actually like him! Let all the God's creatures live and prosper under this sun... ;)

Until he stays in his cage (his own threads) it is fine - once he escapes and starts polluting other threads that actually seek some information, serious exchange of opinions, etc. he becomes a virus and it is ok to ban him...

But until then - let him be.

This is precisely what he has done here. This is a highly interesting thread concept, and the idea of hearing opinions on this topic from so many diverse mixers and engineers was appealing.

Instead, though some have attempted to address the topic intelligently, it's been derailed with idiocy.

Polluting other's threads is exactly what he has done here.

Amusing at first, this character has really, actually become a disruptive nuisance.

Guys- I suspect your chains are being yanked. HOB has to be goofing. Nobody could actually be that dumb.

Yeah, with respect, we've been down that road before. Check out some of the other threads featuring "Blender" and "Blender2."

The fact is, it doesn't matter who or what this character actually is, what matters is the reality that he's derailing communication.

Cheers.

I agree - I overlooked that this was not the thread started by him...
It doesn't matter if he is goofing - the derailing of communication is indeed damaging the forum... sort of a virus that is disintegrating the meaning...

After reading this, it is now clear to me (as I had hoped) that HOB is just fishing and trying to get a rise out of everyone. I mean, c'mon dude. "How can you get a warm sound w/o running through tubes?"

Either he's playing devil's advocate, or he's never actually recorded anything.

Everyone that has ever used a decent solid-state pre knows that..... it's not even worth it to continue. You all know what I was going to say. I hate trolls.

So, back to the question at hand..... I hate brittle top end. I think as far as LDCs go, the good mics have (very generally speaking) a smoother high end, as opposed to crappy mics being overly bright and brittle. Maybe it's just me, though. (It probably has to do with transformers and other stuff I know nothing about. I'm pretty clueless about schematics.)

Sacha Baron Cohen??

The Thomas Edison remark was the nail on the coffin for me. You pushed the character too far with that one Hob, but I have to admit, you had me going for a while there.

I tried, but he was in another leaque, obviously. I tried to get a view on the Cad Trion series, the 6000, which I saw some critic compare to a U87. My initial goal was to find out if that could be anywhere near reality.

I have tried to find out what actually makes a mic better than another.
Also by making a U47 copy, with a vf14, Oliver Archut Bv8 and an M7 capsule.
I am trying to find the electronics, Neumann have them, but won't sell me any, understandably. They didn't seem to acknowledge the BV8 of OA, which to my ears sound great.

I also saw over at the Wunderaudio that the measurments of the db reductions/enhancements in the grill before the capsule was of great importance.
I would have liked one of their 'bodies'. Their mics looks good.
There is more to the U47 than meets the eye?

Sometimes a cheap mic is better. I had a session recently where the M149 just wasn't right for the singer. I ended up using a modded Oktava that cost me 50 bucks. It always depends on the source. That being said, there is some cheap crap out there that sounds horrible on everything.
