A continuation from a hijacked thread....

I figured a new thread is more appropriate.

Yes, the FF800 looks beautiful. Thanks for the heads-up on USB vs FW. I think I've heard something about some issues now that you mention it.

I should probably have been a bit more clear though...I would very much prefer a rather small footprint, hence the PCMCIA. Perhaps with a breakout cable? I read somewhere about an EMU 1616M. Is it as good as the other models mentioned here (1812M etc.)?

You know how it goes....one starts off with a slim PC laptop, then bring along a couple of channel strips and mics. And top it off with a 2U converter. Now it ain't so slim anymore....

I'm not necessarily expecting any miracles regarding the sound, but what do I know...

Thanks again,

Stisse

Digigram Pocket VX for your PCMCIA slot... they do a 4 channel one now. I have the old 2 channel one and they have really really nice D-As. What I'd call 'proper' D-As. Totally portable - always there, S/PDIF in and out, you can even plug a dynamic mic straight in.. I'm never selling mine..

The patchmix interface can be very weird to figure out, but the 1616m is an excellent card. I have two of them, very happy.

Perhaps an Echo Audiofire 2 or 4 would fit the bill?
