Kick and Snare Help!!!

Could some of you guys post a 5 to 10 second clip of a kick and a clip of a snare that have been eq'd for mixing (i.e. not a raw track)? I am trying to get a drum track fixed and am having all sorts of troubles with kick and snare. I know my room is not perfect so I figured if I can see the spectrum of a correctly eq'd kick and snare I can see if I can match them and see if that fixes the problem (besides learning how to correctly EQ the two).

Thanks,

Rob

Sorry to disappoint you but even if someone posted the samples it wouldn't work. The first and more important reason is that Snare and Kick are transient sounds. That means that the spectrum changes continously during the transient itself. The attack is usually full of High frequencies while the relase contains the pitch of the drum and even the balance between the two stages is ditctated by how strong the drum are hit.

Besides the spectrum you've also to consider the timbre of the instrument. Matching two spectrums doesn't mean matching two sounds. Most of the times the more you go far eq'ing the worse the timbre gets.

I suggest you to use a param eq for both. Simply take a sweep filter, give a huge boost and move the frequency until you've found the resonance (or the frequency that sucks most) and knock it down.

PS just to narrow down your freq's spot..both kick and snare muddy areas are between 100Hz and 500Hz.

Good luck
