This is an important lesson to all of us slutz.....

Don't worry so much about the gear and the decor, instead focus on the MUSIC!

I know I tend to spend a certain amount of time thinking about the aesthetics and technical quality of my workspaces... but every moment spent NOT working on the MUSIC is wasted time!

Pics like this are sobering... huge dollar musical creations made in a crappy room with simple gear... hats off to that guy! He's not a "slut"... but he's a millionaire. Gotta respect that.

should we respect anyone who's a millionaire in the music industry? and i think most people would agree that manson makes his money from his image as much as his music. surely that's something to rail against rather than applaud.

Welcome to the 'music' industry.

I disagree with the fact that it's ok to have a bland home studio. Home studios should be about having a nice comfortable vibe to work in over having killer gear. I do agree that it's all about the music. A home studio should inspire you, so that you can then take it to the next level. Just my opinion

Ive been into manson for a long time and just recently read his book. Im guessing thats more of a rehersal studio than a place to record. Hes not real involved in the music aspect, and never has been. He is a good singer, and a great showman. He has lived on his image, but he really hustled to get where he is. My guess is thats just a spare room he uses to write music and rehearse with his band.

I (would) think it's great. That could be absolutely anyone's basement. If it really did reflect some kind of minimalist or DIY values, that would be a great statement, coming from someone of his means.

However - this house is up for sale. You'll notice he has more than one bookcase without anything on it. I think it's more reasonable to believe he's already moved anything personally identifying, useful or of value into his new digs, and has left just enough stuff around so it doesn't look too empty. I'm sure the pygmy heads and and stuffed bats have already been carefully arranged in the china cabinet at their new home.

I didn't see a single pentagram, inverted cross, or severed cat head.
What the hell. I feel cheated.

I think his home and studio looks very ugly - no taste at all but it's his home... I like his music.

well, now that I am looking at the pictures again, it does not look as if it is being lived in.
It's quite possible all the pentagrams, books on satantic rituals, etc.. have been packed up and carted off to his suitably gothic mansion in New Orleans.

edit: damn.. I pretty much just repeated what Kafka said. Note to self... read before posting...

Maybe he finds it very ascetically pleasing? It is his home studio, after all. To me, it looks like a computer lab in a middle school somewhere. But maybe that feel helps him be productive? Also, I could be wrong, but I don't believe he's recording his albums in there, maybe just demos? Perhaps some synth/vocal overdubs on his own time?

Either way, Kafka's got a good point, he's probably moved stuff out of there all ready...

Amazes me how many successful artists have little taste, especially in Rap.
Manson's house looks like one of those "bling cribs". ****ing awful!
To each his own!

Only in L.A. can a 1/2 acre property somehow have "a tremendous amount of rolling lawns."

The place looks hidious. I'm guessing he's never watched HGTV, especially "Designed to Sell." As mentioned before the kitchen is nice. That's about it.

I respect anyone who is at the top of his/her profession.
I'd say this ISN'T the place where those records are mixed, however.
It looks to be a writing/demo room, which is fine given the amount of synthetic sounds that are in his music.
I imagine that drums, guitars and probably vocals are all recut in pro studios.
he can certainly afford it.

I met him (and Dita) at Torture Garden (london dance club) a few years ago through friends that run the club. He was really cool and relaxed guy and didn't mind when some dickhead kept calling him Brian to try to yank his chain.
His ex-wife Dita is just the most gorgeous woman I've seen in my life.

Considering how successful he is, this is probably not his main digs. Probably a spare home with spare equipment, a spare studio.
Someone of his wealth wouldn't be caught dead in a place like that.

Makes sense, but you'd be surprised. Some talented folks who are so focused on their craft spend no time thinking or worrying about anything else. The walls could be falling down around them but they don't care one bit, as long as their ADAT is working.

MM I'm sure did not make millions overnight, it took years of hard work, focus, sacrifice, dedication, etc... plus he's probably on the road a lot of the time anyway... so when would he have time to worry about drapery, carpeting and whatnot...? I wish I had that problem.

Who gives a shit what color his walls are...

the room looks semiretired.
Though there DERFINETLY appears to be enough gear to track a band....
Are those Tannoy PBM's on top there?

Judging by the other house pics in the link (empty shelves & bookcases throughout), the place is at the end stage of moving week... who knows what this room really looked like a month or two earlier. But I'd guess it was for demos & rehearing + misc. debauchery...

He's obviously already moved out... I'm sure there's plenty of wall art and Manson "flair" that the real estate company was glad to be rid of before the photo shoot.
As for the left over gear and furniture, c'mon he's a millionaire! He'll buy new stuff for his next place.

it does look like no one lives there.

the house looks like a california strip mall from the front.. or maybe a chain restaurant or realestate/legal office. ugly and cookie cutter looking to me. looks like the rich burbs. i'd move too.

It's funny how people get so blind sided by the "professional image" and forget that
it's no more different that Red Skelton in his hobo suite.

A long time ago, I got to hang out with the gang from Alice Cooper and it was just so comical how normal they were away from the floodlights.
