3m or mitsubishi reel machines?

Anyone know anything (or know where I could get any info) on these machines? Were they built well, sound quality, etc...?

Thanks
Aaron

Are you only talking about the digital 3M? If you'd like info on the analog 3M there were a few good things years back on rec.audio.pro. One was from one of the designers of the M56 and one from David Butler (believe it or not...) Go over to Google groups and look.

We picked 2 Mitsubishi x-850s up a few months back from the Toy Specialists. One of the machines functions flawlessly, the other has a bit of a grounding issue that we are working to fix. I've already passed at least 2-300 tapes on the functioning machine without a problem. We are now searching for a 3M Digital machine. If you have any luck finding them, please let me know.

I was actually most interested in the analog machines, since they seem to be more rare, at least for me...though I have heard good things about bth of their digital machines...any advantages to those digital machines over more modern digital machines? Don't really know much about them...thanks!

I believe Tresure Isle in Nashville still has a couple of 3m digital decks around. Used to record on them all of the time years ago. Good sounding machines. Reliability though?

Thanks. I'll have to look into that. Hopefully some TLC can keep these machines running smoothly...

My experiences with the Mitsubishi x850s are that they are very reliable as long as they are in a temperature controled environment. The x880s sounded great, but had PSU issues. They all run very hot. Their transports were made by Otari. I have a few that I still use for conversion from time to time.

I'm not aware of Mitsubishi ever making an analog machine.

X850 and DTR900's same format...both Otari origin (transport)....and seem to be a better long term proposition than the 3M dig...as few of those were made...3M analog gettin pretty scarce...and scary when new...difficult to support
