Share your Gate secrets!

Hi guys!

The modern world tells us to do everything ITB but I'm a proud owner of 4 dbx 363x gates and I would like to share secrets with you...

My secret (the secret)

I use my gate to control the hiss from my pioneer spring reverb and I also feed the signal to a compressor for some smack - works great! I used the same config together with e-guitar...

Please add to this love gate fest; Add you secret and be a member of the secret that is no more...

Share - P2P - Share -

Thanks!

during tape days when someone cut something low and there was hiss i would mult the output of the tape channel.. run 1 into the gate trigger and 1 into a 3-4 ms delay and then into the gate input . that way the gate would always open just ahead of the audio track in it

This is my "gate secret"...

I put a 421 right up against the big metal gate at the front of our studio parking lot and kicked the gate as hard as I could. I have about 10 of these, each one totally different.

Usually I go for these when a client says "I need an explosion there", they have nice metallic overtones, especially good for "metal" music.

I thanks for the trick! We are not talking about the same gates - I have no gates around or outside the house... So your trick will be hard to repro...

Seriously - I would love to hear about your tricks - I believe there is a secret for every box in the studio...

Keep it up! -

Well the trick is not to hurt your foot while you're kicking your gates

Automating the threshold

I like to use Sonalksis gates on drums and automate the threshold.
