I love Jamez but It's not like he sings like the dude in Lamb of God. Hetfield
is more powerful than someone like John Lennon but I still wouldn't consider him a power vocalist or someone that would f-up a diaphram

I've screamed into my CM7 and it took it like a champ...

It actually SHINES at high SPL. I was surprised by how much so.

I did ask Mike at Wunder about it before I tried it...
he assured me it was OK to do so.

I don't know what max SPL is but I don't think you're
going to get anywhere close to it with a human voice...
(spider monkey... maybe).

Yeah... that "Twist and Shout" vocal has to be my favorite vocal of all time. That's a hell of a tone.

my Dad's a musician.. (not going to mention his name), but back in the 70's he used to use a re-20 because he would badly clip condensers when yelling. I'm guessing it was more of a transformer issue, not diapgram... though I don't know for sure. I will say, however, that when I was a kid.. if you did anything bad.. the last thing you wanted to hear was him yelling at you. It was like hearing thunder overhead. Scary stuff.

Oh Yeah, how's that? Tell me, How does hetfield sing? Asshole. it was 1/2 a joke. But you know what they say, every joke has some truth to it. John Lennon pushed as much or more air then any Hetfield vocals. Just because Lennon didn't squeeze his throat in an attempt to mimic the Cookie Monster doesn't mean he pushed less air. The mic doesn't become afraid and break from the cookie monster vocals, I promise.

They both spoke to a generation of music fans
but personally I think they are both average singers at best
but awesome song writers and personalities

I really wasn't till after john met yoko that he became boring and predictable

Also there is only one asshole here

What do you know about Yoko Ono? - Name a record you've listened to, I'm curious...

Well I've heard the wedding album but only for a couple seconds actually.
I was throwing up in the bathroom during most of it. I couldn't sleep for days after.
I was much like when I saw the exorcist at 7 years old I was scared shitless
It was horrifying.

Are you serious?? Gawd help me you have to be kidding... Yoko ??

Gawd help me if you're serious that you think John Lennon's creativity waned after he met Yoko.

Look at it this way - being that, actually, you don't know that much about her which you have freely admitted -- it would seem prudent to, um, ****...

And to answer your question - yes, Yoko. Dig it.

Well I didn't exactly say his creativity waned so don't put words in my mouth
But I guess Im one who believes you can be creative and predictable
at the same time.

I think it would be hard to make an argument that John wrote as many great
songs after 1970 than he did before. I think every song he wrote as a beatle was great
Not sure if you can say that post 1970. But he had some moments of greatness.

I think if he hadn't been so preoccupied with being a war activist and yoko
he would have written better stuff as a whole i nthe 70's

Double fantasy was dated when it came out but it had some magic

that's fine if you don't like Lennon's solo stuff as much as his Beatles stuff... For me though it's not as much about his 'great songs' versus his 'not as great songs' -- it's his life as an artist - as every artist vascillates between shine and tarnish, but I digress.

Yoko Ono ignorance is a boring cliche. that's all I'm gonna say.
Now - back to screaming into really expensive microphones!

Can't belive I'm saying this, but...

You guys need to lay off AllenCollins. He made a joke, in response to a joke, and now you're actually debating with him that Yoko was a positive? Look, not everything the guy says is wrong, just like not everything you say is right. Believe me, you'll have your chance to pick a fight with him, he makes it easy, but today is not that day (or at least not this thread).

all of your comments are based on opinions... none are facts. I was talking about how much SPL they both (respectively) hit the mic with. So, I understand that everyone has a right to his/her opinion... but then also note what they say about opinions... and you're the one here basing all of your statements on personal sentiments. So... ahh... if there is only one here... a, you know the rest ;-)

Well could it possibly be that working with Paul, Ringo and George put him in a better position to write and create at a different level? Besides, I think it is a real stretch to say "every song he wrote as a beatle was great". Hardly. Well, great by your standards? Perhaps a bit biased standards clouded by your blind hatred for Yoko? I absolutely love many of John's songs from his solo career. And with the Beatles huge library there are plenty of songs that I really don't dig.

A real fan would be satisfied with John's choice as to who he wanted to be with.

In an effort to get back on topic to my original question, does anyone else have any input or thoughts?

So basically I can bark and yell "Master!...Master!" into a Wagner or Wunder U47 clone and not harm it?

Anyone know (quantitatively) what max SPL's come from a maxed out human voice versus the typical SPL rating of these type of mics?

Secondarily, assuming there is no problem from a diaphragm point of view, I assume distorting the mic while singing like this is a potential problem for these type of mics if singing 4-8 inches away? Is this correct?

I don't think Hetfield should even be in the same conversation as Lennon. Lennon had more talent in his poop than hetfield had in his whole being on his best day.

I haven't had any probs w/the CM7 at loud spl.

cuts through guitars really well

I guess it's all a matter of taste. They are both very original artists
Personally I think Hetfield is much more intelligent lyrically than Lennon. More intelligent than your 'poop' comment at least. jeez grow up

Jamez is a way better gtr player than lennon. But they are both great. Apples and Oranges. But back to the topic. Hetfield sings much more powerful than lennon. I guess thats the bottom line here

Would James Hetfield type of vocals be harmful too a Wagner U47w or Wunder CM7 type?

it won't be harmful, but it might be a little offensive.

to my ears, hetfield is more growl than bark. iow, i don't hear a lot of raw spl. lennon's vox on sgt. peppers, that's some spl. janice joplin, serious spl. chris cornell circa badmotorfinger, ditto.

hetfield? more strain than volume.

nttawwt.
