| Lives for gear | general principles for using delays with reverbs in mix, plz....!?
Up until now, I have used reverbs pn my gtr tracks( predelay, wetness, experiment with lengths) the way Ted Templeton ( spelling?) hard panned verb to other side and mixed verbs with Van Halen - -but probably less reverb e. I have also just kept reverbs on gtr, hard panned R and L and mix wetness -pretty simple. Vox's reverb, usually hall, hard panned R and L, wetness added to taste. Bass dry. Drums, usually OH's room for reverb. Any midi synths had their only verb/delays so I never messed with that too much. Any other suggestions to start appling reverb to my main tracks for more depth? Second: Delay. I have used delay on gtr for effect and doubling in my guitar signal chain, playing live for years. Sometimes, I track with the RE-201 delay, very subtle, 10% quarter, one repeat, like EVH did to great success. ( Barely noticable). Of course, delay on gtr can be used as an effect for fun sounds, too. How can I use delay, tastefully, or almost indiscernibly to help make the song denser, bigger than life, fuller etc....? For example: vox, background vox, bass -it at all, drums-if possible, rhy gtrs most music mixed for Rock-all types, alternative, industrial, |

Wow I guess I forgot type CLA to get a response? eCLA CLA CLA CLA CLA CLA CLA I think reverb and delay in song is very important-though I can't use them like a pro, it would be nice to hear others experiences or opinion, maybe even a pro if this thread isn't too revealling for the "black art"..... |

Less is more I guess. As for hard left/right ..the outputs of your digital reverb are meant for that already. Reverb and delay type and amount is different for each song, so its whatever you like. I like a little on vocal, tape delay to live chamber or EMT 140, but for guitars and drums, just natural room ambience and nothing else usually. As for Van Halen, I don't have their albums but do remember the day Teddy Templeton called me down to Warners to hear a test pressing of the their first album. I didn't like it ..dissonant guitar notes, jazzy shuffle beats, and told Teddy they'd bomb.
