$4,000,000 budget checks will never happen again....

I saw this youtube video, the man makes some great points. Winds of change are all around.

....Ringtones cost more than songs.... They've depreciated what's made us special....

And there you have it.

Thousands of bands. Hundreds of thousands of rappers.

You wonder why Kanye keeps with the antics? Because if he didn't, what would people have to talk about? his music?

But on the other hand, good music prevails. It's just that few really appreciate it. So you have to deal with a niche audience. And milk the hell out of it. Own your niche, and you develop a cult following that will stay with you and believe in you for years to come.

As long as you stay true to the standard you set, and not sellout or make a blatant attempt to get crossover, mainstream acceptance, your cult will always support you.

Busta is reminiscing about the good ol days. Those days are gone. Nobody cares anymore. maybe 15-year old girls and fanboys, but who else?

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

What I get out of this is some firsthand examples of how the upper end of the music industry just hasn't operated according to any sort of rational business model.

Imagine, selling 2 million records and the recording budget alone sucked up $2.00 per copy! Is there anything that you could record with a $4 million budget that you couldn't with a $500,000 budget? Did that extra $3.5 million really make the record better enough to sell any additional copies?

This is what happens when everybody thinks they are spending the other guy's money. The record company thinks they are spending the artist's money. The artist thinks they are spending the record company's money. And the producer and the studio are laughing all the way to the bank.
