Recording bass.....DI + mic'd cab - will it matter much if a 10" or 15" cab is used?

I have to record some bass tracks at home which will later be brought to a studio and put in a mix . I intend to use a DI and a micd cab.

We have an ampeg 4x10 cab thats in perfect working condiditon, along with a sun 300 tube head.

We also have a 200 watt hartke 15" combo that has a blown speaker (one of those aluminum jobs). Thinking about fixing it.

The hartke used to rock before the speaker crapped out. It seemed loud as hell and was really punchy.

The question is, is a 10" speaker preferred over a 15" for bass cab micing (rock music), along with a DI?

I know I could fix the hartke and just compare both, but I would rather not spend the loot right now if the 10" will do a better job, plus, I do not have enough experience to know how the 10" or 15" will behave in the mix.

Any input would be appreciated.

Oh, bass will be a p-bass

The 10 will have a brighter sound, more mids.

The 15 will kick ass more.

I love single speaker cabinets for recording. The 15 will give you a bigger sound and I think that would compliment the DI. Check out tone tubby speakers. You will freak out!! Great replacement speaker.

Isnt that something that a little nudging in Protools could fix?

Both 10 or 15 can work.. Just different sound.

I like 10's most of the time more but have had like with 15's..

But in this case I'd go Ampeg.. Just because I'm not a fan of Hartke cabs.
