Thread Starter | Need help with setting up bass traps and foam for room
I am moving into a new house and I need help setting up my studio. If you look at the pictures I attached I will have my Ominrax Pro Desk facintg the fireplace. so the fireplace will not be scene. I already own a lot of auralex stuff. but I was going to get 12 Ready bags bass traps and hang them. I need to figure the best place to put them and the best way to set the room so it can be acoustically better for mixing. thanks for your help. I know this room is probably a hard one. ps: The room will be empty at first. I will have a couch but the stuff in the picture is from the last owners |

Straddle as many corners as you can with something other than the Auralex. Don't forget wall/ceiling corners are corners too - especially centered in the front and rear. Keep some distance between you and the fireplace so you're not right up against the wall and in a bad place for bass response - maybe 2-3 feet. Have something thick centered on the rear wall to kill the null off the back wall. Use the Auralex in a corner somehwhere pretty heavy on both walls to give you a place for some drier sound and some panels on stands to surround it for vocals. Bryan

Cool thanks. I have 3 sets of speakers. so all 3 sets should be 2-3 feet away from the wall or fireplace. Whats about the 2 two open doors ways. i was thinking about installing doors or is there some type of other solution like hanging sometime of material that can hang in the door way. I still want it to look nice

I was thinking of getting the ready acoutic bags for bass traps. But I saw at AES they had these suede bass traps but they were only 2" thick. I think you need 4" right?

Yes, for bass control you want a minimum of 4" thickness. Bryan |
