Hey Jules how about a dedicated Music Biz forum?

My poor head gets confused and messed up when threads about contracts, and the more complex side of the biz get mixed up with gear threads in this forum and more and more threads are popping up at the mo about getting music for free, royalties etc.Think it would be great to have a dedicated biz forum.

What dya think?

Great idea! I'd love to see guest moderators from the Legal, management, A&R and Publishing side of the Biz.

As a former Moderator (not here) I have a very different take than most people.

I believe the less forums the better.

Maybe it's just the way I browse the forums.

I check "So Much Gear…" "Hi End…" and "New Products". That's it.

More forums mean more threads that I would miss.

I believe that the human eye can scan all the threads and decide to ignore what we don't like. I only look in about 5% of them.

Yeah, I hate to also be a naysayer but I vote against it. I think it's a good idea, just not for gearslutz.

I think I agree with produceher. while I read more forums than just those, I definitely don't read all of them.

But how about a sticky somewhere?

I think its needed and long overdue. The biz posts on this site are hard to search for and too fragmented unless you know exactly what you are after, but there are some great biz posts on here and the years of experience of many of the posters on this site is invaluable and should be easier to find.

To me its simple- you want to find a topic on music industry/biz stuff you look in the biz section. It makes no sense to me that biz topics are in with mainly gear related posts, its a messy way to have things imo.

We all know that gearslutz isnt just about gear; if it was just about the gear then why have a moan zone, gear free zone etc...

I too usually just browse the new product, high end, and so much gear forums... But imagine if so much gear was only about gear and the music biz threads had their own area

Why don't you just check [new posts] and click on what sounds interesting, regardless of forum? You are missing lots of good stuff by just checking three.
