Lawson. Hooray.

We've had Peluso, Sputnik, old U87 in and out...
We just bought the Lawson combo set.

Could not be happier.

The Lawsons are great.

Just saying.

Frank will never be happy. You know that as well as I do. I think that he was an egg inspector in a previous life.

We don't have any samples, sorry. We just picked the ones that we liked.

Can you describe the qualites of the Lawson, and the differences between it and the higher-end mic's you have? Would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Which pres are you currently using with your Lawsons?

Do you like the L47 or the L251 more?

Well, I try not to get too nutty about descriptions of the way things sound.

I will say that the L251 is a sound that we have been lacking in our mic closet.
We have a lot of ribbons and other dynamics and not too many condensers... certainly not any "bright" condensers.
It's an instantly recognizeable texture when it hits upon the right voice.
That tells me that Lawson hit the mark pretty nicely with it.

We were hoping to get that sound with the Peluso P12, but it fell very short for us. Too much drama in the upper spectrum. It's supposed to have a little sparkle.. "a little spakle" turned into looking directly into the sun pretty quick.

I've only used the L47 on the FET body so far, as a room mic. I think that it's going to be used more than the U87. The 87 feels cold compared to it.

I'll be swapping heads next time and trying them on some more sources.

Oh, I've only used them with API 3124 so far.

Lawson vs. Sputnik

Hi,

Could you please share with us how Lawson and Sputnik compare to eachother?

Sputnik is suppose have the low end qualities of a U47 and a hig end qualities of a C12. So I think it'll be an interesting comparison.

By the way I own a Sputnik and I like it a lot. It definately has that tube warmth? that enhances the voice.

Thanks!!

We, actually, liked the Sputnik quite a bit, also. It has a very deliberate color that would be good for lots of sourses. We liked it better than the L47 on one voice.

I could see us grabbing a Sputnik at some point to have around. It's a fun mic.
