Crikey!

Is there extra space for my garden tools/mower etc?

(shouts to wife) "just going out to sharpen the mower blades love" and return 8 hours later with completed mix ala Carlton MId (beer ad)

SHED

I think it's Peter Gabriel's idea to SLEDGEHAMMER some bucks.
but the concept is letting out a bit of STEAM

the shed interior looks like the interior of the "high end pro audio room" at hollywood GC...

is this whole "...of your dreams" thing the newest marketing-consultant-approved slogan from SSL? i noticed a 2-page ad for new SSL rack gear in SoundOnSound that said something like "the stuff that dreams are made of".

whenever a company starts to go there with its marketing, it's easy to become suspicious of their commitment to maintaining the high quality that created their reputation -- Mercedes Benz in the late 1990s/early '00's comes to mind.

doesn't stop me from wanting a Duende, though...

I saw this as good fun intended to make SSL seem smaller scale and intimate more than anything where they actually think they will sell a bunch of these set ups. And yes, if someone wants one, they would be done up much more than was shown.

Gabriel's older writing shed at RW is a good tour ... with a giant Oxford console and B+W 801s jammed in there, plus more classic keyboards and amps in the corner than you'd ever need. $300,000 in old keyboards? In a dusty pile over there next to Lanois AC30. IIRC there was a 2" 456 master of The Passion sitting out ... "might want to put that away". He has another writing shed in Africa IIRC that's more current, so said our guide.

OK - finally back in the UK after a monumentally busy show...

Aside from the fact that the shed smelled great, here are a couple of extra bits of info;

The shed (if installed) is fully soundproofed. We didn't put this up in the show shed (as we'd just have to take it down again). The idea is that if you would like a complete studio installed it takes just one phone call and the whole thing will be up and running in 30 days.

And yes, Peter has his "shed" at Realworld - where do you think we got the idea from?

And as for:

"whenever a company starts to go there with its marketing, it's easy to become suspicious of their commitment to maintaining the high quality that created their reputation -- Mercedes Benz in the late 1990s/early '00's comes to mind."

There is absolutely no way that we are going that way. All our products are built in the UK (with love) and our commitment to producing the highest possible quality audio tools is at the centre of what we do. If it doesn't sound like an SSL then it doesn't leave the factory.

having said tha, the shed comes from Canada!!!!!!!!!!!

Talking Summerwood Chimin in...

Jeff at Summerwood here.

Just wanted to chime in and provide a little more info on the structure part of the SSL package.

While Peter chose the Cheyenne, you can choose from any style and size, including anything on our website - or send us a hand sketch on a napkin and we'll build it.

In other words, whatever you want, that's what you'll get.

For the purpose of the show, with it's tight install time frames, there was only so much we could do to the demo model. There was only 2 days to do the build, so going with a larger unit with insulation, and other features wasn't really an option.

So get out your sketch pads and get in touch with SSL and let us know what you're looking for!
