Avedis will be showing his new 500 series preamp, the MA5, which features Neve style circuitry.

I always said it couldn't be done. But, he has made me eat my words.

We have two prototypes... If you are going to AES, I'll have one with me.... Call 401 316 6423 and I can show it to you.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

JLM 500 series lunchbox

The hottest lunchbox I saw at AES was this one from JLM Audio (see pictured). The PEQ is silky smooth upstairs and phat-as-phuck downstairs, plus the 99V pre's & TG's are in a class of their own. The addition of a 6 channel mixer seals the deal, plus (rumour has it) there's a very special compressor on its way - check it out! thumbsup

Cheerio,
Bent

Where does the JLM fall on the spectrum of Neve <> Transparent <> API?

Shiny Box and Roll Music are both showing new 500 series modules. Roll is developing a tube preamp (single space!) and Shiny Box has a transformer and transformerless preamp, and the recently announced hi / lo pass filter module.

LaChappelle is showing his 500 series tube pre at the show also.

Other than the Mercenary mention, nothing is online yet, but there's a 10-space Purple Audio 500 Series rack w/internal power supply at the AES show (booth 1020), containing a Purple Audio compressor (ACTION), EQ (ODD), a differential mic pre (PANTS), and a headphone amp (CANS), along with the Biz.

Nice, but I just don't dig all those multipin connectors on the front panel. Maybe they couldn't do them on the back because of the 500 specs, but I'd rather have a 19" rack unit that all those wires coming out the front of my 500 lunchbox/racks.
