looking for a good live vocal mic for female with brassy voice

I joined a band with a singer who has a very cool sexy voice. That is until she turns it up a few notches. It gets pretty brassy.

So when I recorded her I went to the dynamic mics and a ribbon which is not ever going to go into a bar. The ribbon was the ticket.

Can anyone suggest a road durable ribbon mic ? Something that might sound like an R84 without being an R84. I thought about a cascade or one of the chinese built units since they are only a few hundred bucks. Is there a better alternative? An SM57 or 58 is still too harsh for her. We will be using a mackie vlz board most of the time.

Thanks
Eric

APEX mics

I'm not sure they are road worthy, but cheap enough and sound unexpectedly good. I think you could buy about ten of them for the price of an active Royer.

Apex Electronics: Quality Above All

I've heard Dave Thomas (not the Wendy's guy, and not the Mackenzie brother) in Vancouver is modding them to great effect.

I've heard a unmodded they sound pretty good even just out of the box. Dave does good work, but I've heard he can get behind in orders (i.e. slow sometimes)

You might try an RE20 or an EV RE410.
