The CD drive on my MacBook has gone loco

I've had this problem for awhile, but it's increasing worse. The CD drive on my MacBook has a hard time reading disc and makes this annoying clicking sounds, like the laser eye thing moving back and forth a bunch of times at a fast pace. It's done this for awhile, but it's not like I can replace it myself and I don't have a warranty *duh!* Should I buy one of this cleaning CDs, or is the CD drive just junk?

If the machine is under a year old you can still purchase the Applecare extended warranty.

If not then why not try a couple of different CD cleaning discs? You have nothing to lose...

I didn't know that about Apple care...I don't know where my receipt could possibly, but I put it on a MicroCenter credit card and it's the only purchase I ever made with it, so I can probably find it. It's so frustrating, I'm trying to put some of my music on the computer but iTunes locks up because the CD drive can only read about half the disc...and they are not scratched (I worked at record stores for 4 years, I'm picky about that stuff).

A lot of things have gone loco with mine. Apple had to replace the logic board, processor, heat sink, and hard drive a few months ago. Now the display is "flickering". Seems like there are some lemons floating around. I shoulda gone MBP. Thank god for applecare.

funny that you say it, I had the same problem a few weeks ago. It was one day out of warranty when I visited the apple store, though everything was repaired for free.

The most interesting part is that it only flipped when playing back video dvd-s. dvd-a worked fine.
