Studios in Hawaii

I am Miami-based producer on vacation in Honolulu/ Waikiki and would love to check out some studios while I am in town. Project studios/ pro rooms, etc. I used to work Yoshiki (@ Extasy in LA) and remember hearing about an amazing Japanese-owned studio here. Also, I love the reggae music here and would like to talk to people in that scene.

If anyone has some downtime this week and would like to network/ talk shop please send me a PM. I would like to check out a few place tomorrow (Friday the 28th). Also plan on being in Maui on Sat.

By the way, this is the most beautiful place I have ever seen! What a place to be inspired and make music.

Hope to hear from anyone!

We just got back from the yearly, family vacation to Kauai.
(thank-you AA Advantage program!)
There is not much there studio-wise unless there are private rooms that I don't know about. Pro-tools stuff mostly in people houses.

I know some industry types that live on Kauai and although I won't name them (for their privacy) they were HUGE in the studio biz.
I also was on the same plane as a VERY big name artist who I know also lives there.
So, while these people are there, they may be there to get away from the "biz" and hence... no studios.

If you like the "Hawaiin" feel of Oahu then you need to visit Kauaii.
It is even more beautiful, but most importantly.... there are so few people there!
Very sparse.... it's kind of a secret that way, too.

I live in a smaller out-lying city in Texas and I am used to small crowds, but one of the most beautiful places on earth (Hanalea and Tunnels Beach, Ke'e Beach were almos completely devoid of crowds on even Labor Day!)

There must be studios on Maui because a friend of mine was there recording a high profile artist last May. They were not recording in a project studio!

I'll be on Oahu on Saturday, giving a powerpoint talk to a hall of water activists & politicos. Be back on Maui Saturday night.

If you are around Central Maui on Sunday, stop by in Wailuku. I will be around the laboratory most of the day finishing a mix project in my humble abode.

Aloha,

Probably getting his noggin knocked on by a city of Samoans.

But in actuality, he's on Oahu for the majority of the time, and spends most of the remaining time on the big island (Hawaii).

Don't ask... I grew up there, finally got island fever, and moved away in '95.

Aloha,

Here are a couple of studios open to the public.

On Oahu - The Doctors Office (Doctor Trey)
On the Big Island - Island Vortex (Seti Orion), Lava Tracks (Charles Brotman)

There are several "industry people" private studios as well but...

Hope this helps,

kendale

i remember someone built this ridiculously expensive two ssl room on one of the islands, i think it was called vk, or something king or something...this was a no expense spared type of studio, and the owners if i remember right, were saying it would be mostly private, but at the time the largest ssl ever was being commissioned for the main room, which was i think like, 16 buckets or 128 channels.

if anyone knows id love to hear whatever became of it...

i remember seeing a picture of the pacific ocean overlooking a dramatic cliif taken from the live room.
