Recording Impulses for Convolution

How is this done? I can see how impulses could be recorded from rooms, but how would you get an impulse from spring reverb? Or, how could you sample impulses from speakers and mic etc?

Im sure there are logical methods of doing this stuff, but none that i know of. Can anyone shead any light on this stuff?
