Bob Blank / Blank Tapes studio

There was so many great records recorded at the blank tapes studio during the late 70's, Arthur Russel, Instant Funk, Patrick Adams and a lot more.

Anybody got any info on equiptment that was used? Special Techniqes? ..really anything regarding Blank Tapes during the 70's i would be very glad to hear it.

The blank productions : : USA : : 203.667.0137 site does'nt mantion much about the studios history.

This might be a little later....but in the mid 80's they had about 6 Yamaha DMP7 digital console in a custom rack, all cascaded. Wild looking thing.

I think Bob does mainly post work these days, but I could be wrong. I bought my SSL FG384 from Bob. It was totally funny, I met him in a parking lot in westchester, like it was a drug deal, still use that compressor every day

I remember that DMP7 rig. Anyone who thinks that digital can't be funky should check out what those guys were doing. Sixteen bit digital mixing no less.

dmp7 came out in 1987. most of the classic bob blank records came out in the late 70's and early 80's.
"fonda rae - over like a rat" is great, also "class action - wek end" and "t-ski valley - catch the beat "just sounds so crisp to me. would like to know about his studio setup from that area.

He now supplies karaoke tracks which are created by a "ghost" staff as he takes the credit for the productions. He's generally disliked by his employees.

man, i love these records. Bob really got some great sounds.
as with any production the arrangement is really what makes these tracks so great. the classic conga hit with the snare a-la al green ..
