What's the average range of recommended amp power for main monitors?

Also, how common is it bi-amp the main monitors?

FYI, I'm trying to work out if the Bryston 3B SST amp I currently use with my passive PMC TB2+ nearfields will be of any use to me (i.e. if I were to add main monitors sometime in the future) if I were to buy active nearfields instead, and get rid of the PMC's. If you're interested to know which active nearfields I'm considering, see this thread here.
