I'm using Pro Tools LE 7.3.1 and I need to know what I need to edit video and line up audio that I've recorded seperately, from the video. I plan on recording the video using a miniDV and record the audio using a 002r. Would I need the Digi Translator or would it be easier to use something like adobe premeire elements? These are for instructional guitar videos for the web and a DVD. Thanks for your help. |

Just do it the poor mans way and clap your hands a couple times in a row on camera before each session. Then when its all dumped to PT its fairly scientific to align the sound with the claps. After that, you should be all set. Also, one of the few FULL and WORKING program downloads you can get off most P2P programs, is Sony Vegas Video. Its pretty powerful and straight foreward, and its amazing for video/sound. |

i'm not sure i'm following your workflow, but if you're recording both audio and video concurrently you might just want to record a "clap"/slate at the beginning of each scene. later you can sync it up with the clap/pop in PT. i've got 7.3 with DVTK2 and the video editing is pretty weak. the only cool thing is multiple video tracks, but only one can be online at a time. you can only do cuts and pastes, no fade in/outs or xfades. what i've been doing is collecting my clips and exporting the QT from PT and editing the final stuff in vegas.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try it with Pro Tools first to see if I can get it down. Looks like I can probably make it happen without any extra software. I'll take a look at Sony Vegas as well.

I like how we both said the exact same thing at the same time. | |

If you are on a mac, you can capture and edit the video in iMovie and export QT for pro tools. The software is free and easy to capture video for cameras and decks using a Canopus video to firewire interface. Hope this helped....
