Do Audio Technica mics have chinese capsules? especially the 4047

I just ordered an AT4047. (for my vocals and acoustic guitar)

i'm done with these chinese mics. (adk hamburg & trion 8000 = shrill harshness) but now i'm wondering if the AT mics have chinese capsules ?

I've emailed AT and didn't get a response. i was wondering if anyone knows about this

thanks in advance for any responses

PS, i'm sure alot of people love their chinese mics... hey good for you. its just not for me. unless its a pearlman which i'm saving up for.

Did you try sending the email in Chinese?

I don't understand the problem, tho? Do you not like the way your AT4047 sounds? Have you even heard it yet?

I wasn't under the impression that AT capsules were made in China. Either way, it doesn't really matter to me, they sound the way they sound. I found this on the net about the 2020, dunno if the source is reputable or not:

"this mic is not built in china, it's built in audio technica's own manufacturing plant elsewhere in the orient. It has no parts made in the same chinese factories as mics by apex, mxl, behringer, studio projects, etc etc the list goes on. This mic is built in the same factory as the 4047, the 4050, and the 4060, and is tested by the same people as those mics are QAd by."

just call them directly, I did, they'll answer your questions, they did mine. Guess if you dislike Chinese mics, you should have researched a little more before your purchase, hope your seller has a return policy.....just in case.......good luck

There's several factories making the capsules and several grades of capsules. Chinese made doesn't have to mean poorly made.

maybe i should of made myself more clear.

i have tried an AT4047 years ago and loved it. I just ordered one yesterday and have not received it yet, but if it sounds like the one i tried, i should love it too.

my question about the capsule is just out of curiousity. whether its made in china or not, i'm sure i will love the mic. since i've already tried one years ago.

i was just under the impression it was made in japan. but regardless its a great mic.

update:

i got a reply from AT.

" The AT4047 and parts are manufactured in Japan."

and...UPS delivered the mic today. (what a weird coincidence)

after trying the AT4047 for a couple of hours (thru a GT brick on vocals) i immediately realized that this is WAY better than the chinese mics i've tried. there is NO comparison IMHO of course.

now I want to get a 4050 for my acoustic

so to anyone thinking of getting a mic around $500...do yourself a favor and SERIOUSLY consider the AT 40 series mics.

Yeah, the 4050 is every bit as cool, too.

The 4047 can be really nice on acoustic guitars as well...I find that the 4047 is actually even more versatile than most people seem to think...when using the pad and roll-off filter, it's almost a different mic. I have no idea why but it works really well that way on acoustics for me....it seems a little less heavy on color but still keeps the vibe.

Hey, it's David Tomaloff.

Audio Technica kicks ass, and yes most of them are made in Japan.

Yeah my AT4033cl is made in Japan. My friends AT3035 (I think) is made in china. I love love my 4033 for vocals. I think you're probably good with any of the 40 series. Everyone agrees they're awesome

The Hamburg IIRC is supposed to emulate a U-67 which is not exactly the screetchinest mic I can think of.

With the selection at hand it's not my go to vocal/acoustic inst mic, but it is not a bad mic at all and it's pretty quiet.

The 4047 is a very nice mic is very quiet, and has a sort of laid back quality to it, but run it through GAMA, API 312 and crank it does shovenit in your face a decent bit without becoming too urgent.

Interesting.
"Made in Japan" used to mean cheap crap. It has become something to advertise as a sign of quality. I wonder if the same will happen with "Made In China".

Back on topic- every A-T 40 series I've tried has been a real nice mic and fabulous value for the $$.

The 40 series is made in Japan. The 20 series is made in China.

The AT4060 is the best Audio Technica condenser followed by AT4040.
