I guess it's not really necessary for most. Hook up a USB keyboard and you have Midi I/O.

I agree it would have been cool but for what the duet is, it's cool.
Most USB keyboards can work as a separate midi interface with I/O (although the cheapest may just have Midi In..)

i'm still using an old emagic mt4 usb. u can probably get them cheap now and they're great. 2in 4out.

Adding a MIDI in/out would probably have been a compromise to its size, so I'm glad they didn't.
