Such thing as Firewire A/D Converters?

I have a nice preamp and a JDI that I use for basically everything, I dont do a whole lot of tracking into my computer, so I was wondering, can I just buy a box that's sole purpose is A/D D/A converting and plug my preamps/di's/whatever into that and not buy some fancy audio interface with more ins and outs than I need?

Yep. Check out the Lynx Aurora w/ firewire card, the apogee ad/da units with firewirecards. Many to choose from.

Hmm, I dont think this is exactly what I was thinking I wanted...

Basically, I want the Duet from apogee, but its mac only, and based on the prices of macs, I cant afford a macbookpro the way I want it customized (the dell with same specs is more than a grand cheaper)... so I am looking for something with the quality convertors and functionality of the duet but I dont want to have to spend extra cash for a big PC firewire interface when I just need a couple trs and xlr inputs...

I'm running an Apogee Rosetta 200 with the X-Firewire card with a PC laptop. It's GREAT. No issues, sounds fantastic. Highly recommended. And it sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

It sounds like these may be a little out of your budget/needs, but check out the RME stuff. In particular the Fireface 400 and Fireface 800.

It's very good stuff and well supported too.
