Toft EC-1 vs ?

Does anyone know how the Toft pres stand up to others in its class (RNP, grace, Solo 610) it seems that its EQ is good but no one says much about its pres?

I think they are a bit more source specific where the EQ's seem to work on anything. They're best with drums and acoustic instruments, imo. I haven't compare them directly to those preamps you've mentioned, but think clean-ish, punchy transformer-less SS preamp and you're in the neighborhood.

Fletcher destroyed the pres when they first came out. I didn't buy one based on his review, and they certainly didn't "take off" saleswise.

Go to Mercenary dot com and check out the Toft ATC-2 page. Fletcher later clarified his comments by acknowledging that while the Toft pres were not of the standard of "top-of-the-heap" pres, given the price point they should not be expected to be.

TAVD's earlier post is pretty much correct - clean, punchy, transformerless, solid state.......

FWIW, Tchad Blake likes them. As does Tony Visconti.

And further down the phylogenic scale: so do I - great on drums. I also use them for vocals, acoustic guitar, etc when my APIs are tied up.

IIRC the Toft website has links to reviews etc. If you search Gearslutz for Toft ATB and Tchad Blake you'll find Tchad's comments on the Toft pres - which are identical across all Toft products.
