what type of oc 703 and cover cloth for bass traps?

i am going to make some bass traps and i see there are 2 types of oc 703. ridgid and non-ridged. what type should i use? the 2 are also different thicknesses. one is 2inch and the other is 1 inch.

here is the 1st type
CASE 6 PANELS (2") ACOUSTIC TREATMENT OWENS CORNING 703 - (eBay item 150135341294 end time Sep-20-07 17:11:43 PDT)

and here is the other type
CASE OF 12 ACOUSTIC PANEL acoustical OWENS CORNING 703 - (eBay item 150083857558 end time Sep-18-07 14:34:57 PDT)

also is there a special type of fabric should i put over them and where can i get it?

links to websites to buy these items would be great.

thanks

here is a quote i found from another thread;

"Simply putting 703 panels everywhere does virtually nothing"

is there any truth to this?

It does not matter if you get 1" or 2" you will need to stack them to 4" (or more) and straddle corners for bass trapping. BTW both of them are rigid fiberglass, just in different thickness.
As far as fabric you can use anything that is breathable (you can blow through it).

Hope that helps.

Guilford of Maine is the cloth covering that most acoustic panels have on them. Do a google search. You can buy it by the bolt. Different colors and textures to choose from.

Here's the link Guilford of Maine - Interface Fabrics Group

So what you're saying is, that I could cover the traps in denim, too?

opened celled fabric. If you hold it up to your mouth and blow through it then it should be fine.

OK - thanks a lot. I'm asking because the fibres of the European equivalent of 703 - Rockwool - is notoriously terribly for the indoor climate and and breathing and so on... so I hope the fabric doesn't have to be too open celled for it to maintain it's acoustic properties.

burlap is probably the cheapest and easiest fabric to use. That's what I've covered my panels with.

I guess if you don't mind the looks of it. To me it looks like something that should be on a pillow then your wall, but it does work well. A couple years ago we thought about offering it as a cheaper way of building. My partner (who is a women) shoot it down BIG TIME!!

If it was me, I would stick with the GOM. Heck you are going to put a lot of sweat (maybe even a couple blisters on your hands) why not go with the best?

I made bass traps based on Jon Risch's tube design. I wrapped a layer of 100% polyester on top of glass fiber and covered the polyester with burlap. The polyester prevents fibers getting in your lungs.
