Most authentic Leslie for a Hammond M3?

Hi there,

I have a nice Hammond M3 and I'm on the verge of purchasing a Leslie 145 or a Leslie 147. Anybody knows which of those is the perfect match for a Hammond M3?

Note, I do know the Leslie 145 is a little shorter then the 147 and so would fysically maybe be a better match...

Regards,

Roger

OK, why a 147 will keep that and a 145 not?

I use a 145 (shorter) with my M3 and it sounds great!

There is no technical difference, other than box-size, between a 145 and a 147. That means that the 147 has a slightly better bass. I have done an A-B of the two in the studio and there is little difference, but if you are using it with an M3 and you have the opportunity to buy one or the other, then go for the 147 as the M3 is somewhat thin on bass to start with.

Both Leslies are sought after by Hammond lovers

Thanx for the info! Last question, is there a volume difference in the two?

Both have the same 40 Watt valve amp, both have exactly the same speakers, motors, everything. The only difference is the slightly better bass response of the 147 because the cabinet is slighly larger.

Yea, the amp in a 147 says 147 on it!

Does anyone know what these babies cost these days?

Here in Holland they are getting pretty are "hip", and people are asking prices like 1500 euro for a 147...

Get a 147, or 122. Better yet, two 147s or 122s

Over the years the 147s were somewhat preferred over the 122s.
