Upgrade from Mackie HR824s: Why should I?

Ok....Now that I have your slutty attention.

I've been mixing on Mackies for 4 years or so. My mixes sound good and translate well.

I am wondering though if it is time to upgrade. Not so much because I don't like the Mackies, but because of what I read others saying about them.

I am ALWAYS trying to improve my mixes, so if upgrading my monitors will help me do that, I am willing.

When I am considering adding a pair of mixcubes for a more real world reference, I just need to understand why I would ditch the Mackies and get something with even greater fidelity.

Here is is in a nutshell: What am I missing by staying on the Mackies?

Thanks!

I think you say it all right there. YOU'RE satisfied with them. What does it matter what others think?

If it ain't broke...

Thanks guys.

The thing is, I never knew how much of a difference a quality mic pre can make, until I actually started using a pair in my studio. Now, I think, what if I never knew.

Same thing with the Mackies. I think, "I like my mixes now, but there is room for improvement" "I just wonder if I am missing something that I would hear on better monitors"

I guess there is really only one way to find out for sure. Buy some and see.

An expensive experiment, but if the upgrade helps, well worth it.
If I decide to stick with the Mackies, I wasted my money.

A delima of sorts.
