Global internet based recording projects. Goal: WORLD DOMINATION! Who want`s to jam ?

First off I hope I don`t piss of anyone from PSW with this as you guy`s have definately taken something probably every musician thought would be a good idea and actually done it with the Cape thing to a proffesional level.

You guy`s did it first and I just think it`s cool so I`d like to do it too in a much less formal way and no competition or deadline. (Or controversy )

I remember thinking years ago how great it would be to continue working with some of the people I left behind in California and other places via Internet. I was more thinking of actually jamming online somehow at the time but recording would be just as great.

I`ve got a few people here in Boston to play and record with but as we get older it gets harder and harder for all of us to balance the wife and kids and real work kind of stuff with practicing and recording.

I feel like I`m a little to old to go scouting around for people to jam with these days so I kind of figured why not start here.

Would any of you guys like to try to round eachother up and work on a few projects this way ?

It could be as simple as emailing a few scratch tracks with a click track around to people and have them add their parts as they get the time. The guy with the best skills or the best setup could mix the thing down at the end or we could all do a version.

Or maybe a pro with some extra time on his hands could do it for us just for kicks. (worth a try )

I myself can throw my share of rock/funk/reggae/whatever else guitar riffs into the picture as well as leads.
I can sing fairly well when I`m in practice and I can pull off percussion and keys but I`d rather have others more capable do it. (which is kind of the point of this) Always room for more guitars too.

I`d also love to work with some good horn players and a good lyric writer as that`s something that I always find lacking in my tunes even if the melody I`m singing is good.

So what do you guys think ?

Anybody want to write some tunes ?

If you want to either post here or P.M. me and we shall get down.

I'm involved with something similar here at the DUC that should be fun. After everyone has done their bit the last track is gonna be a global jam... few of us, if any, have met face to face so it could be an interesting exercise in the ability to connect over the 'net. The way I figure, the worst that can happen is that it is an exercise in futility!

If you need a drummer I'm in.
Jazz, Rock, Fusion ? Dare I say Disco?
No I probably shouldn't
I just got some new Sr77s and a 1022 that need to be broken in.

Your in Edyar!

You are brave indeed to mention disco but we are capable of real funk so we shall put forth the true goove!

Now all we need is a kick ass bassist and our Global Rhythm Section is ready for action.

I can come up with some basic grooves and 2-3 changes but I`d really like to see a decent songwriter come along and give us more direction. Otherwise we will be stuck with my horrible lyrics which will not represent our kickin groove fairly.

Anybody else Man or Woman enough for the task at hand ?

All you need is some chops and the basic hunger for musical WORLD DOMINATION!

I play also guitar - I know too many guitars around here.
But I'd like to mix a version off that song.
Why don't we all mix a version and load it up at the mp3 area. That would be quite a lot of fun and I would learn more than going to the SAE for 50 years.

Too many guitar players, but I play guitar too! A little bit of everything but in the main jazz, fusiony, funk and rock sounds. If there's room to jam count me in.

Are you kidding! 5 guitar players is not even close to enough!

Just like when I was a kid. Everybody wants to be the guitar player.

Well if Jack switches to bass for a couple numbers I could do the same in others. Unfortunately I need to play with a pick (very lame) in faster songs because my right hand fingers are too slow.

I`d also be willing to just add some congas and background vox to a tune if necessary.

I`m also thinking of getting one of those electric Kazoos I saw here a couple months back.
Anybody got the link to that ?

And of course theres always room for cello.

If you need more bass players. I could do that. Got a Fender Preci a Music Man Stingray and a Fender Jazz fretless.
I'm not a pro but you could erase whatever won't work

YES!!! Cool Hat`s are required as well as sunglasses.

Studjo and Jack I`m happy you guys are willing to play bass but we will need your guitar skills as well.

Personally I vote we make the first number 10 minutes long so we can fit all of our guitar solos in and still showcase 2Leods vocals skills.

If we get some horns and keys we will just have to make it 15 minutes.

Hopefully we can somehow chop it all up in protools to make the radio friendly 5 minute version that will get the kids all pumped up.
I want to tour behind this so we need our fans.

I'll go and start telling some 'hot chicks' that a 'new sexy band' are forming and that I can get them a 'backstage pass'

In other words, I'll do whatever's left

Damn Bev. If were going to be a "sexy band" that means I gotta get my fat ass to the gym.

Maybe I should do that instead of practicing.

I think Teach is young still so maybe he can be the bands Sex Icon so the rest of us can let our bellys hang out.
He`ll get the chicks all worked up so they`ll dig us anyways.

Problem solved.

It looks like theres a lot of musicians already so it probably would be a good thing for a straight up mix engineer to mix us down. (even though a lot of us do that also.)

Your main tasks would be sorting through the 10 guitar players and make sure we can hear every single note of each one.

Tomorrow!

No screwing around!

I`m going to the studio and I`m going to make some time to go through some old guitar riff tapes and try and find some stuff thats workable.

I`m going to try and get 2 solid grooves on a tape with a kick and high hat from a drum machine going in the background.

Each groove will have at least 2 changes but the whole point is to let eveybody add to it so I dont want to go too overboard at first. If anybody has a cool part they want to add or an intro or wants to switch the order of the parts it`s all cool with me.

By the same token if anybody has their own stuff that they want me to add some guitar parts too instead that`s great also.

I`m pretty good at layering all kinds of stuff on any kind of music but I`m best at coming up with the funkier riffs so I`m going to start with that myself.

I`m going to post an MP3 of the scratch ideas on my website and then we can try to figure out if everybodys down with them or not and we can choose which one to work on first.

Once again if anybody else has something they`d like to start with instead like a kicken drum beat or a vocal or a maraca part definately tell me and we can either post it on the site or your site or anywhere else for that matter.

I just figured since I started the thread I`d put my ass on the line first.

I`m personally not opposed to working on a few things at once because it`s no great stretch for me to lay a track here and there.
It might be good to get a couple things going because of the number of guitarists we have. I`d like to hear what everybody can do.
The hard part is going to be mixing the thing down I think but we can take turns with that if we end up doing a bunch of stuff.

Just give me a couple of days to get the thing posted up there and we`ll get to it.

If anybody has any better suggestions of ways to handle this definately speak up.
