Thread Starter | CAD Trion 7000 opinions
Looking to get a semi-decent ribbon mic for guitar cabs and brass. Have had a couple of ribbons at this stage, T-bone RB500 and Oktava ML-52-01 but they were way too dark and distorted easily(not in a nice way!). The Trion 7000 seems to be getting good reviews, is in my price range and I can get it for $160. Anybody out there using this mic? I'd appreciate any opinions. thanks Cormac My studio MySpace.com - www.myspace.com/thejutefactory |

It depends on how loud your amps are when you are tracking. When I stick it right in front of the speakers like 57 & drive it with my bass heavy Ubershall it does distort, cause the effect is like blowing into ribbon, which you probably know is not a good thing to do. I've never tried to use a pop filter & see if it helps, I've got to try it sometimes. other than that it does very good for amps in general. Check this link out, that should help you CAD Trion Samples - Topic Powered by eve community Anyway ribbons are going to be dark compared to dynamic mics. |

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I know ribbons are dark, but I would use in conjunction with an SM57 . I do normally track pretty low but the Oktava ML-52 I found to be way too muffled whenever I used it. Thanks for that link to those sound samples too, they're really good! I have a pair of matched ML52 with the above mod and I like them a lot. | |

Thanks for that tip. Unfortunately I just sold the ML-52 on e-bay. ![]() MySpace.com - www.myspace.com/thejutefactory |

Well I just got the Trion 7000 and tried it on some vocals today. Had it through a Langevin DVC and it was absolutely superb. Had to add a bit of EQ at 8K and use higher than normal gain but it sounded great. Different than my normal vocal mics but eminently useable. Really fitted in the mix way more than my Neumann 103..And to think, I bought this primarily for guitar cabs Looking forward to trying it on my Fender twin! Cormac |
