Cubase Drum Editor, duration?

I am using battery in cubase, is there a way to have the default note side in cubase be longer, some of my drum samples are extra long but the midi note cuts out before its finished when I am using the drum editor.... it would be nice if every note hit played the sample in its entirety..

Does Battery behave that way? Yuk. I much prefer drum samplers that don't require a note off command, they always play the whole sample unless intentionally cut off by a Choke/Mute function. Maybe Battery has an option for that kind of behaviour? It's definately much easier to work with, and prevents unexpected midi note behaviour.

I use Linplug RMIV this way, so I usually quantise all the note lengths to 1/64 notes - I use a mixture of mouse, keyboard and drum pad, so I just make them all the same.

You can always drop into an alternative view of the midi data and lengthen the notes. Or use Legato to join the notes up as long as they could be. That idea doesn't thrill me.

From memory, the Drum Editor drops in note lengths based on the current quantise setting. I don't have Cubase in front of me to check, but that might be a place to start (or what about the Manual - no, that would be crazy talk).

But as you know, every sample is a different length - so this is not ideal for a drum sampler to behave like this. If you set your midi notes to 2 seconds for your long crashes, that would screw up your fast hi hat notes, possibly causing overhangs.

Really - if Battery really behaves like this, you might want to consider RMIV. I love it as a sample player, but I hate the supplied library of sounds - absolute rubbish. But if you have a library of samples, RMIV is a brilliant player.

Its in your quantize/snap settings

next to the snap >|< button ther is the "grid etc. button" to the rright of that is the "quantize" drop down menu...to the right of that is the "length Q"

as default its set to "Quantize Link" ( it becomes the same as the quantize setting) you can select up to 1 bar if you want longer just drag your pen tool to the right as you click.

Hi

You can set that up in battery. I don't know how the exact option is called.

Me thinks something with the "Trigger Mode" of the cells. So they don't cut each other.
You will find something about that in the manual.

Make sure you also put up the polyphony of your sampler.

Ah yeah..have fun!
