Classic albums mixed on vintage Neve's

I am compiling a list of classic albums (from Steely Dan to Nirvana) recorded and/or mixed on vintage Neve's (any 80 series) for a website I'm creating.

I'd appreciate any help in the area - if anyone already has a list or an idea of any of these albums, absolutely any research conducted (ie. a good web link!) - all would be good!

Cheers!

Fort Appache eventually had a Neve 80 series. So a lot of the stuff that came out of there, including mixing The Bends by Radiohead. UrgeOverkill's Saturation was also done on an 80 series. Didn't Jim Scott mix a bunch of Petty (and others) stuff on
the 80 series at Cello?

I am pretty sure all Tool albums were tracked through a Neve.
Except on the most recent album only the drums were tracked on an API.

actually you are wrong, they recorded the drums for 10,000 days on an API console. Uhm... The studio is shut down now, but if you google mix magazine for the 10,000 days mixing or production article, they will tell you all about it.

The rest was done @ Grandmasters....Mixing I can't recall where was done, but I Think it was Grandmasters for mixing aswell....

Is 10,000 days not their most recent album? Perhaps you should read my post again.

You're right! Wiki says he was engineer while Leckie was producing.

Thanks for the info! Keep 'em rolling.

Never would have guessed that... are you sure?

I guess there are a lot of variables in the making of any record.

Blonde Redhead's "Misery Is A Butterfly" was done on the customized 80 series at the Magic Shop. Pretty giant sounding record for sure.

Correct me if I'm mistaken. While I know Phil cut most (if not all) of UO "Saturation" in Studio 4's A room on the Neve...I believe he mixed it in Studio 4's B room on an E series SSL.

lotta half truths here.....

yes to the pixies - surfer rosa, 8068 still in commision at q division. recorded by Mr albini for less than 10g's (including steve)

the bends was mixed partialy at the fort, but not on an 80 series(of this i am almost sure, like 90% sure, did the fort really have an 80 series? I was unaware ), I believe it was the neotek elite at that point.... i dont know what tracks paul mixed, but I always end any paul kolderie disscussion (I am here in boston, happens enuff) with "MF mixed the bends"

and most of misery is a butterfly was done at longveiw farms, and i think it was acctualy the a range, but it could have been done on the 8078....
they did do SOME tracking at the magic shop tho...

****ing amazing sounding recording, all must bow to this.....

As I understand it the Bends mixing was done on the 80 series. Sonic Circus was selling the desk and advertising it that way. I talked to Sean Slade at TapeOpCon '06 and I can't really remember but I though the Neve was mentioned in conjunction with the Bends. We did mostly talk about Tracy Bonham and Uncle Tupelo though.

That very well could be. I know that's how he did the Blue Meanie's record--track on the neve mix on the SSL.

I believe Kevin Gilbert's 'Thud' and 'The Shaming of the True' were both mixed on Kev's 8068.

FYI, the Sound On Sound article says 'Le Freak' was done on a Neve 8078, but Bob Clearmountain confirmed on this forum that is was actually an 8068.

Blonde Redhead's 23 was recorded at the Magic Shop too as well as La mia vita violenta, but I read an interview recently where it says that Misery was mixed on a "rare" Trident...So I guess that's a A range

Mike Oldfield, "Tubular Bells".
I know the guy who used to own that desk. It had quadro routing (anyone remember quadro?) and a master section compressor with staggered meters (could have been a 33609).

I'd take Seans word over mine... I never got to work there .. they closed/moved just as I was seeking an internship, that studio was the reason I came to boston for school in the first place, I still remember the feeling in my heart when I heard they were closing.
I am huge into boston rock history, though...

I wasnt aware they had an 80- series
I gues that means, Pinkerton ( Weezer)(98), Total System Failure(Jullian hatfield)(00), and ton of other great recordings done there in the mid/late 90's were 8068 too....
great to know

speaking of Tracy Bonham, that record sounds and is, soo soooo good.
