You don't need a pre if you already are hitting the REDDI's. Are you looking for a tonal change?

Hello User_name,

I don't understand why you would need MORE power when you are using the REDDI in combo with a Synth. Have you tried turning the volume up on the synth?
But if you feel you need more,... then use the make-up gain from an EQ or a Comp.

I would look at the Pacifica (of course) in combination with the REDDI for a different sound (depending on the style of music you are doing) but to me that is a killer combo of Tube and Solid State.
Any of the pre-amps you have will work nicely but you will get a different tonal quality from each of them.

I would say try what you have on hand first and see if they work for you.
If not then use the EQ or Comp for make-up gain.

Have fun,
Peter

Variety Is The Spice of Sound!!!

Hey User_Name,

I agree w/ the posts above...but can also share my experience. I have many synths and while I can go straight from the DI to converters, I like using different pres for color. I've gone the 500-series route and my current favorites are the A-Designs P1s. Lot of headroom and great clarity. For low end sounds (Synth Bass) I like using the Purple Audio Biz. My current setup is w/ Countryman Type 85 DI's, but I plan to pick up some REDDIs in the future.

Have fun...can't really go wrong w/ anything on your list! thumbsup

Thanks for answer Peter !!!
I don't have too much experience.....
and i was read from forum various topic about recording
synth and bass (in my case) and some user mention REDDI
through "something"
i never hear something in that combination and i don't know
how at all have sounds.........(REDDI through pacifica...REDDI through....)
Maybe REDDI is enough.........for me is GREAT !!!
I like what "theflyest1" say in his topic - "Lot of headroom and great clarity"
it's super base for future work and in future 500-series is perfect idea (many combinations)
i prefer electro-acoustic music...

I love your work
thanks again
regards

Yep, the output of the REDDI is pretty hot, so it is usually pretty easy to get enough extra level from the make up gain on a compressor.

For going into a pre amp, I find the REDDI to really change based on what mic pre amp you go into (I consider this a good thing) Lately I have been really enjoying the sound of the REDDI into some of my really clean solid state pres.

Just reviving this thread since I just picked up a reddi for bass and maybe my se1x. Curious what preamp combos people are using and also whether or not they are driving the output of the reddi. Pres at my disposal are chandler ltd1, avalon737, api512, and portico 5012.

I will definitely try them all, but any input would be appreciated.
