rme adi with pro tools m problems

Alright,
I'm no digital Einstein:
Bought a pre. Sounds great. Bought a U195 sounds amazing.
Rented an apogee to loop my "fast track pro" cruddy home box through-
Wow, got a nice vocal chain. But I can't remember how I hooked it in... So-

I buy and RME adi 2 and try to spdif it through my box- in and out
and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to make it work at 24b 48k.
96k is impossible for both in and out.
Can somebody please teach me how to connect this to get around my crap fast track pro converters?
