Trillium Lane Labs' TL EveryPhase, McDSP's Chrome Tone, and IK Multimedia's AmpliTube are some of mt latest faves.

I've demoed Phoenix, but haven't bought it yet. Haven't tried the URS + Eventide plugs, but hope to soon.

Ditto on the URS e.q.s, and the Phoenix is a must have as well!

Hi!
Another enthusiastic vote for URS (all of 'em!), and TL EveryPhase as well.

Waiting impatiently for ReVibe...

PhaseMistress?

Have you compared it to SoundToys' PhaseMistress?

How about Digi's Impact?

Any opinions?

It doesn't seem to have made much of an impression...

I tried it at a friend's studio. Not what I like.

I have 2 Alan Smart C2's so maybe I don't see the need for an emulation... it doesn't sound like SSL to me that much at all... more like a normal comp/limiter plugin that's been Photoshop'ed to look like one......

Besides, I can't run it on my system, regular PT HD...

just my opinion, that's all....

Dont forget Digi just posted a bug fix for the Impact, it might actually be better than you thought - now it's fixed...

I would like to hear it one day...

Perhaps AES Berlin!

Charles

Do you know anything about TL Space, the new reverb from Trillium?

They have a full page ad in Digi magazine and a thing on thier website but it doesn't tell you much!

Morpheus,

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm looking forward to it that's for sure. The Trillium Lane stuff is very cool. So far everything they come out with meets a need that no one else has yet.

Im demoing Phoenix at the moment, and it is very musical but subtle. And since I use a fatso on the way in on most things, Im having a hard time seeing how it could be useful in addition to the Fatso. Jules how do you use the Phoenix to compliment your Fatso?

Also I demoed Analog channel about a year ago and unfortunately cannot compare it to Phoenix at the moment, but I have a hunch (if my memory serves me correctly) that the McDsp's are capable of more tonal variations especially when it comes to "Punch".

Anybody here who has experience with both plugins, care to comment on how Phoenix and Analog channel AC1 AC2 compare?

Im basically looking to get one plugin for my PTHD to compliment my Fatso in the "analogizer" department.

concerning the Phoenix:

I bought it. I definitely love it.

HOWEVER, it isn't what I would call tape-emulation, no matter how it's marketed. DadTape is much closer to the real thing. (It should be, since its a true model, and processes the entire signal.)

Phoenix is a parallel processor, and therefore doesn't affect the "dry" signal. from What I can tell, it simply adds harmonics, and takes away some HF. there is probably some other tape-like EQ in there, and perhaps some compression of the added harmonics, though it's hard to tell. (remember also that the Phoenix makes everything a few db louder, which throws-off your perception of the results you're getting)

The thing that cracks me up, and I'm absolutely not dissing the Phoenix 'cause I do love it, is that so many people have trashed the Aphex Exciter plugin, yet love the Phoenix. Folks, the Aphex is far superior in some ways. I have matched, perfectly, some of my favorite Phoenix settings by using Aphex with (and sometimes without) some subtle EQ. I'm talking about "you can't pick which is which in a blind test."

Again, I'm not knocking the Phoenix, as it sounds GREAT and is very convenient. My point is to remind people of how great the Aphex can be if you learn how to properly use it. In fact, it's a whole lot more versatile in certain ways. I think it got a bad rep because people OVER used it, and didn't take the time to learn its very complicated controls.

Since digidesign took it over, I believe that the aphex will never see another revision, and will someday simply be abandoned completely. I couldn't work without it, and hope that some of you give it a new look. If enough people get into this amazing and unfairly dissed plugin, maybe we can save it.

Big thunbs up for all of the Soundtoys plugins, and also another vote for TLL's Everyphase.

Another vote for Chrome Tone, but more for the effects than for the amp simulations.

HUGE thumbs up for the URS API eq, though I personally don't dig the Neve.

And ReVibe will knock you out, when released. It's a killer.

BUT, what the world really wants to know is:

When we will ever see a MDW compressor plugin? (one can dream....)

Speer,

Thanx for the insight, I have the aphex and never use it actually, im hoping the phoenix will make things easier to mix together like my Fatso does.

FilterFreak is Outrageous, Ive never heard that much juice in digital before, and it has given me a punch on Drums Ive never gotten before in D Land. Only drag is HTDM Delay which is not the plugins fault.

schmeete,

Since I don't own Phoenix I can't answer your question properly, but I would like to throw in that Analog Channel's AC1 does something no other plug does. It emulates solid state console buss saturation. Not tape, not tube. And it's impact (no pun intended) on your mix when you mix thru it from the beginning (as you would w/ an analog console) is pretty extreme when you compare it to what your mix sounds like at the end with AC1 in bypass. The difference is startling. AC1 can glue your mix together like no plug you've ever heard. Great stuff.

I also love Valve + Tape. As stated elsewhere in this thread they both give real color to your tracks. Attitude, crunch, grit, warmth, thickness. They don't suck.

Charles,

Thanx for the reply, I managed to get a another Demo of AC running along side of Phoenix on my OSX rig. And now I am really starting to see how they differ.

In short, you can really beat the shit out of AC and it punches back at you, where as Phoenix remains a true gentleman in all situations. I feel that Phoenix is sort of like my Sony Inflator with a two way desser attached to it.

Ever since I got my Fatso I have come to learn how important dynamic HF reduction is to fighting digitus, and often I find strapping my Renessaince Desser across anything (individual tracks or FX returns), gives me just the amount of "analog" I was looking for.

Anyway thanx again for the feedback,

Peter

You should try PSP Vintagewarmer!
My favorite in the 'analogizer' department at the moment.

McDSP for us XP guys finally. I cant wait. Here is a recent email they sent me:

Hey Shane,

Thank you for your interest in McDSP. We are not ready to announce
anything but we are hopeful to that we will be able to make time to port
of of our products over to the PC by Oct. 04. Again that is just our
hope but not yet a commitment. So thank again for writing and maybe soon
we can make a McDSP user of you.

Best
Jake

I'm looking forward to using AC1&2 and everything else on my tracks.

Being a poor VST bottom feeder, I havent had chance to try many of the new PT HD plugs. I do find the Sonalksis stuff great though, and also Vintage Warmer. I'd be very interested to hear comparisons between some of the similar PT counterparts.

How come nobody mentions Universal Audio plug-ins? They've been ported to TDM, and their vintage emulations are unequalled. When I started using UA plugs, I outgrew the muddy-sounding Waves junk that Mr. Dye seems to like so much.

UA's plugs aren't even listed on Digi's site! Whatta company. Are there any other plugs that aren't listed?

UA is known for slow development. Once they get their brains around TDM, things should speed up. Or you could just buy a UAD-1 card and use the VST-to-RTAS adapter.
