BLA mod 003??

ok, just looked at the black lion site and saw that they offer the upgrades to the 003.. im very happy with the way it sounds compared to what i had before i got it (003) but after reading the reviews on what they could do to the 002, im thinkin of sendin em my 003. so, should i wait a while to make sure all the "bugs" are worked out or just say f' it and go for it?? anyone have it done to theirs?? very curious here..

I've been going back and forth on the BLA mod for my 002R. I've never had any of my gear modified so it makes me a little nervous. I decided to get the basic mod and try it out. If I'm impressed with it, I'll upgrade to the tweak head in the near future. There just isn't enough information about the tweak head mod, but I know enough about the basic that it should make a difference.

i feel the same way.it makes me nervous.. i dont like the idea of voiding the factory warranty but from what alot of ppl say it does make a difference but theres those few people who say it never worked right since they had it done.. i know that black lion guarantees their work but i really dont want to have the down time shipping it back and forth to get any problems fixed.. jeez.. decisions decisions

I think they ought to send you one on approval and then take yours if you like it and refund you based on the condition of what you send them.

Myself I'm a confirmed skeptic. I view interfaces as roughly as disposable as mice and computer keyboards, and I would buy outboard pres & converters which I could use for years and years long before I sank further money into an interface. I don't know if Digi will accept modified boards in their trade-in program.

RME ADI-2 is what I have hooked to the 003 Console now, I could add another pair or 8 via ADAT when and if I feel the need (recording whole bands), and I'm confident I'd come out ahead of the game considering eventual resale value, total channels available, and quality. If I need more than 18 channels I have to go lightbridge anyway, and 003 mods would then be a total loss.

roger that!! after i pay this off(which should be soon) i was plannin on borrowin another 2k.. couldnt decide on what to get.. i have so many things i need/want.. but when i looked at that i thought hmm i wonder if it makes THAT big of a difference as compared to gettin a nice pre or something.. i definitely need a good mic pre preferably 2 channel for my synths and drum overheads. but since the switch over to pro tools, it seems as if my computer is lacking now which is weird b/c when i used sonar, i could have 32+ tracks and plugins on almost every one and no drain but i tracked a band the other day and put a few compressors and such on a couple of the tracks and my comp was almost maxed out.. just testin the waters to see which route i should go
