Thread Starter | NYC's WCBS Radio 101.FM....Anyone know?
Good day to you alls! This radio station recently returned to the airwaves after a 2+ year hiatus of sorts...(60's, 70's & 80's hits as well as some of the most knowledgable, hippest DJ's ever). Anyway, I've noticed the sound of this station is a tremendous improvement over other area FM stations, as well as the old WCBS. I've been complaining for years now the amount of limiting being used in FM radio. While I understand the need, what with playlists containg songs from different eras (before, after & during the "volume wars"...needing to maintain a consistent output level), I couldn't stand the mangling this limiting did to some of my favorite old recordings (for instance... on an old Monkey's song, the tambourine seemed to now be right up there with the lead vocals...Not the way the original mix was intended...as well as a ton of other examples with all types of artists). Anyway I seem to be hearing a huge improvement in this department on this radio station. Seems they've got levels consistant but the original mixes aren't butcherd and seem to be "intact". So I wonder if anyone out there has noticed this? The fidelity is outstanding from this particular station, and it made me take notice. That's all...had to share. Anyone else? Any "insiders"?
