Thanks
I can give you an update in case he doesn't come in for a while

The faders are going to be changed to a lighter glide, not as firm, and there will be LEDs for the solo light at the channel I think. People were saying that it was not easy to find what channel is solo'ed
Also there is the ADAT interface (no not the firwire anymore) coming later this year.

I am pretty sure I am up to speed on this because I have been talking to a lot of people including Alan.

Noego, thanks for the reply. I thought that the new Taiwan-Alpha faders were already implemented and are now shipping. Am I correct?
I presume the solo lights would be implemented in this version also?
I just want to know if I should wait for any other changes to the console before ordering.

All consoles now shipping from us have the new faders...They are really nice.... Tri-color LED should be implemented on our next shipment in early March. The shipment with the new faders was already sold out so there are non left.

We are getting a fairly large shipment of 150 consoles end of March....

The knobs are actually good Taiwan Alpha pots, very smooth turning and strong. All metal, not plastic and do not wiggle like so many others. The control knobs are all aluminum and pretty sturdy. Yes, the alignment of the center detent was not very good at first, but I think the factory has significantly improved this and what we are seeing is that in this area it has been resolved.

I am sorry you feel otherwise, but I am glad you like the sound of the console...

Why don't we just hear from people who actually own and use the console, and let the manufacturers and Oram haters and pundits who actually haven't used it yet go somewhere else. God knows there are plenty of threads about this. It's hard to hear about any real user experience in the midst of all this logrolling and gladhanding.

Great. Good luck with it. Love to hear what you think.

Not meaning to be offensive about any of this.

I'm darn happy with the toft as a tracking desk, while working with a band. Drums sound punchy (using toft pre amps) and nice.

Perhaps for a lead vocal I prefer a tube pre with compressor...

The atb has been a wonderfull change from the 02r.

We used to have a D&R more than 10 years ago, when I listen to those recordings I think they sound great also. Mixing was sometimes a problem for our monitors where not really good. Now with Focal Twins and Adams p11's, it's easier...

Oh, yeah... the toft... cool desk...

I want the digital option...

I have done a search for monitor switchers, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Many of the units are way too sophisticated and expensive. All I need is a little device that has one line level stereo input, 3 or 4 pairs of stereo outputs (1/4" or XLR), and buttons on the front to switch between the outputs. Level controls would be optional. I would never need to have more than one pair of speakers receiving signal at the same time, do I don't need a distribution amplifer or zone mixer, etc. I need the device to be high quality enough so that it doesn't color the sound, but spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a unit like this seems a little silly.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks so much,

Rappy
Hey there
I bought a Mackie unit the Big Knob.. (the ladies love it)
I was looking a cheaper ones like the Samson , but you want as close to perfect transparency right. So I got that unit for 300.00 . It has oodles of options and sounds great.

I got my ATB 32 yesterday, so I will no longer be one of those guys who praises it without owning it..:-) I played some tracks (that I had done with outboard pres) through the board and sonically is was really sweet. The Eq is top notch for a board this price. I think that is the biggest asset.
I had one issue and I will ask Alan or maybe call PMI, but I hear a ground hum too if the monitor pot is more than a 3rd up, and when I went to insert a cord in the master inserts, even before I patched into my compressor, the hum grew so loud I had to reach for the pot. I know there is a ground scheme some use. So if anyone can enlighten me. That would be cool. I am not sure why it was happening cause I hadn't even powered my racks yet..

The low mids and top end though are beautiful on the board. It sure is a hefty beast too, compared to my "Macke" 48 channel I sold. I know I have to track something with it now to really see what it is made of, but I will post my findings.

congrats Noego,

I also had a ground loop issue when I hooked up my board. Dave at PMI helped me out over the phone a couple of times and we got it solved. I ended up grounding my rack rails to the ATB power supply. Also check if you have any dimmers on lights etc.
The ATB is the third console I have had in my home studio and every time I had to do some work with ground loops and buzz. I also use equitech balanced for last ten years and it really helped a lot in my situation.
What I would eventually like to do is implement a star grounding scheme.

When you solve the problem, bust out the sound samples!!

I think this is Lou, but if I am wrong...sorry. In either case, your issue is easy to fix. It is a loop somewhere. Call Dave at our office, he will get it solved for you. If Dave is not there, you can ask for Brent. Both these guys are way technical and know the ATB like no others...Probably better than Malcolm Toft!

OH KNOW YOU BLEW MY COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Alan..yeah ...
the unit is perfect ...arrived safely... I had to unpack it myself,,wholly cardboard!!!! Is was a real exersize but it was well protected. I have a feeling though I have my work cut out for me..doing remixes of my back catalogue as Fletcher said would happen! Dam..those eq's
I think I can unload some outboard now.
I guess I was puzzled that inserting without connecting to exterior gear was increasing the hum.
everything is on one circuit, but I see there is a good sized ground lug on the back o the power supply...which I can't believe I have at my feet ...the Mackies sounded like a jet with the headphones on..good thing they had long cables on the LV side cause I had to put them in the next room

Haha. The guy must have more money then you know what. Can you believe his reason for selling ? He's says about a 16 channel board - "it's to big for my desk" and he says he "used it for a week".

OK.

Maybe he's selling it to get a Toft.
