Thread Starter | Whats the effect on the radio coms in Battlestar galactica series?
time for me to make one of these kinda threads aswell... ;-) What kind of effects do you think are used in the battlestar galactica serie when they talk to each other over the radio? sounds like a high pass filter and some form of ring mod to me.. What you think? |

Definitely ring modulation. Gotta love those sidebands for that retro-chic voice effect.

| It's an old trick from radio days that you can do digitally, now. The ring modulator is simply folding back undersampled frequencies to the base band (oversampled, too - if you are doing undersampled measurements). Basically, you just feed a full band signal without a proper anti-aliasing filter into an ADC that is sampling at 10-30kHz. You should have been at last years AES convention in SF, there was a demonstration by Stanley Lipshitz. -tINY |
