Whats the effect on the radio coms in Battlestar galactica series?

time for me to make one of these kinda threads aswell... ;-)

What kind of effects do you think are used in the battlestar galactica serie when they talk to each other over the radio?

sounds like a high pass filter and some form of ring mod to me.. What you think?

Definitely ring modulation. Gotta love those sidebands for that retro-chic voice effect.

It's an old trick from radio days that you can do digitally, now.

The ring modulator is simply folding back undersampled frequencies to the base band (oversampled, too - if you are doing undersampled measurements).

Basically, you just feed a full band signal without a proper anti-aliasing filter into an ADC that is sampling at 10-30kHz. You should have been at last years AES convention in SF, there was a demonstration by Stanley Lipshitz.
