Isolation material for drum room

I am going to be building a drum room(live room) from an existing adjacent room. I am doing this with an existing structure. This is a project studio. Each room is about 10x12x8. I am looking to isolate the two rooms by thickening the walls between them with some sort of material(s). I am looking into the auralex sheetblok or some quiet rock type of material now. My plan is to put a layer of sheetbloc up on to the existing sheetrock, then glue or screw in sheetrock on top of that. I am then going to put a window in between the two rooms. The existing wall does not have any insulation in it so, I found this guy who will blow a dry cellulose material into the wall by drilling a hole and pumping it in. These are just initial ideas.

Anyone do this type of thing before? Any suggestions on materials to use to isolate the existing rooms? Any suggestions on building the window?

I have scoured the internet and found some great ideas. Just curious if any of you can expand my knowledge before I start on this project.

Thanks,

Keith

I found this cool diagram over at Ethan Winer's Acoustics Forum

it seems a little counterintuitive, but these are supposedly measured results not predictions.

a lot of good information there

I built a wall like the one on the right and it was because at the time I was too lazy to double up the wall like the third one from the left little did I know then that the one on the right was actually better.

I doubt if the blown cellulose will do much. I have heard that one more layer of sheetrock is almost as good as that vinyl stuff and of course a whole lot cheaper.

You may want to think about ripping down to the studs and starting over.

If you don't rip out the sheetrock on the existng walls you won't have to put it back if you leave. Besides this site there's John Sayers' site for some other info, both very informative. seek and ye shall find.

Check my spelling on this one... but ALABASTER board works fantastic. A+++ in my book to place over the studs. 8'x4' sheet is about $15.
